Farm stays are fast becoming a Crew favourite! Making the most of the Melbourne short lived summer, in March, we headed down to James’s family farm in Apollo bay. We had access to Great Ocean road views, acres and acres of paddocks and bush, old farm cars, cows, fishing, hiking and all the farm buildings. We were spoilt with choice and freedom to run amuck on the farm!
We stayed two nights in the farmhouse, which was full of character. We were the third generation of family and friends to use the home for weekends away, which made it special and full of unique memories and trinkets. And full of spiders… would not be a farmhouse without squillions of bugs and spiders!
Having driven up on the Friday after work, we spent the Saturday exploring the property. In true farm stay fashion, we accidentally blew the radiator in the 50-year-old Landcruiser (sorry James’s Dad). We also hiked to the top of the cow’s paddocks (thankfully no bulls were present) and went fishing in their stream. Saturday had scattered thunder storms, which when we were not out in the mud, we were hanging out in the farm buildings playing cards and board games.
On Sunday we woke and saw a breathtaking sunrise, over the Ocean, featuring a rainbow in the morning mist. After packing up, we headed along the Great Ocean road for brunch before the drive back to Melbourne.
All in all it was an awesome weekend and we already have our next farm stay at James’s place possibly planned for July this year (winter edition!!).
