Elliott Lodge is an 80 hectare property owned by Scotch College/1st Hawthorn Scout Group on the banks of Chum Creek, nine kilometers from Healesville and about 70kms east of Melbourne. There have been several versions of the lodge over the years with the latest renovation being completed in 2016, see History of Elliott Lodge.

Directions

Elliott Lodge is located 9kms by road north of Healesville on Chum Creek Rd (otherwise known as Healesville-Kinglake Rd). From Healesville, follow the signs to Kinglake.

Note: if arriving for the Scout Troop’s Main Camp Family Day, please use the car park entrance and park in the Car Park, as the main entrance will be closed off to increase the safety of pedestrians on site.

Facilities

ELLIOTT LODGE

Elliott Lodge is a small lodge which contains 4 bedrooms (8 beds); 1 shower room; 1 bathroom and a central lounge area complete with kitchenette. It also features a slow combustion wood fire, ceiling fans and a large verandah. It is ideal as a central retreat for group leaders. The lodge also contains a 1st Aid room which caters for the entire site. Beneath the building is a large storage room and small laundry facility.

CHERRY WILSON HUT

Cherry Wilson contains 2 large Classrooms divided by a store room and a large elevated external verandah. One of the classrooms is fully equipped with tables, chairs and whiteboards. The other is more of an activities space, equipped with trestle tables and bench seating. The store room contains 28 mattresses for emergency use. Both classrooms have gas heating and ceiling fans. The verandah has an outdoor BBQ’s area and the classrooms are a safe retreat on nights of extreme weather preventing camping.

THE AMENITIES BLOCK

The amenities block contains Toilet & Shower facilities and caters for both male and females and can be easily divided to cater for staff and students. A separate unisex toilet and shower facility is also available. The amenities block provides easy to clean bathroom facilities for all campers and contains 7 toilets, 9 showers, 6 hand basins and 2 urinals.

THE MESS HALL

The Kitchen and Dining Hall have the capacity to cater for 96 persons. The tables and chairs can be cleared from the Dining hall and stored in the equipment store providing a large clear space for indoor activities. The Dining Hall concrete floor is fitted with in slab heating and is easily controlled (on or off) via the wall mounted thermostat (please note: activation is required 24 hours prior for slab heating to be effective), the space also contains a slow combustion wood fire, AV cabinet, projector and motorised screen. This room can be utilised for video/slide presentations. Please note that laptops are not provided. Adjoining the Dining hall is a fully equipped commercial Kitchen, complete with cool room and dry store, which is available for use by Scotch College’s Caterers. The building also contains a cleaner’s room and an equipment store.

THE FIRST AID ROOM
Located within Elliot Lodge (Maximum 1 person)
The First Aid Room serves as a multi-purpose room for your group. The primary function is a quiet recovery area for patients. This room may be used as general accommodation or as an area to sleep campers who are having trouble sleeping elsewhere. It contains one single bed and vanity basin. Located across the hall from the First Aid Room is a shower and toilet.

MCG (Evacuation and assembly point)
A large open activities and camping area, close to Elliott Lodge and the Mess Hall.

Hyde Park

A large open space located just beyond Elliott Lodge and adjacent to Chum Creek. Provides a more secluded activities area, with access to fire pit, bridge crossing and walking trails.

Parade Ground

Small secluded area just below Elliott Lodge and adjacent to Hyde Park. The area contains a flag pole and is used for small and medium sized parades.

Bowling Green

A large open space suitable for camping or outdoor activities. Located across the bridge and follow the walking trail northwards until you reach another bridge crossing. The Rover Crew store our Mudbash buggy in the container on the bowling green.

Scouts Own / Outdoor Chapel

Small secluded area located near the rear property gate for quiet reflection or small ceremonies. Cross the creek from Hyde Park, walk through the two former campsites and follow the vehicle trail eastwards towards the gate at Chum Creek road, the site is on your north.

Chum Creek

Chum creek flows through our site and in the wet season has been known to rise and flood parts of Hyde Park, although this is not common.
